Chimney Repair Across the North Metro
The chimney work that needs a trowel instead of a brush. Crowns, tuckpointing, and rebuilding the top of the stack.
Free written estimate on any chimney in the north metro. We send photos of what we found on your roof, not a verbal guess.
Element Hearth and Home has been repairing chimneys out of Little Falls for years. We're now running the Highway 10 and Highway 65 corridors into the north metro on a regular schedule, which means Anoka County and the towns along the way get the same crew, the same written photo estimates, and no travel premium buried in the number.
What we're here to do
There is no shortage of companies in the north metro that will sweep and inspect a chimney. There are fewer that will get on the roof and lay the brick back once the inspection finds something. That's the gap we came here for.
Chimney Crown Rebuilds
The concrete cap on top is the part that fails first in Minnesota. We tear the cracked crown off and pour a new one with a real overhang and a drip edge so water leaves the chimney instead of running down inside the brick.
Tuckpointing & Repointing
Freeze-thaw pulls the mortar out of the joints a little more every winter. We grind the failed joints out and repoint with mortar matched to the brick, so the chimney stops drinking water.
Above-the-Roofline Rebuilds
When the brick above the roof is spalling, leaning, or has open joints all the way through, we take the chimney down to sound masonry and rebuild it. Plenty of chimney companies sub this out. We self-perform it.
Flashing, Chase Covers & Waterproofing
Rusted-through chase covers, failed storm collars, tar-smeared flashing. We replace the metal, correct the flashing, and seal the masonry with a vapor-permeable water repellent.

The permit question, answered honestly
Minnesota Rule 1300.0120 exempts ordinary repairs from the permit process. Repointing mortar joints, pouring a new crown, replacing a chase cover, correcting flashing and rebuilding the section of chimney above the roof are all ordinary repairs. No wall opened, no structural member cut, no vent altered. That's why we can usually be on your roof within the week.
The exception is relining a flue. That's a change to the venting system, it isn't an ordinary repair, and in most cities it means a permit and an inspection. We do that work. We just won't quote it to you as though it were the same thing.
Still Central Minnesota, too
Nothing about this replaces the work we've always done. St. Cloud, Sartell, Sauk Rapids, Little Falls, Royalton, Pierz, Brainerd, Baxter and Aitkin are still ours. See the Central Minnesota service area.
Straight answers
- Which towns do you cover in the north metro?
- Blaine, Circle Pines, Lexington, Ham Lake, Andover, Coon Rapids, Anoka, Ramsey, Lino Lakes, Centerville, East Bethel, Oak Grove, Spring Lake Park, Mounds View, Nowthen, Forest Lake and Hugo, plus the Highway 10 and Highway 65 corridors through Elk River, Big Lake, Becker, Monticello, Otsego, Zimmerman, Princeton, Isanti and Cambridge. If your town isn't on that list, call anyway. The list is where we already are, not a fence.
- Do I need a permit for chimney repair in Anoka County?
- Anoka County doesn't issue building permits; each city does its own. In practice it rarely matters for our work, because Minnesota Rule 1300.0120 exempts ordinary repairs from permitting, and repointing, crown rebuilds, chase covers and flashing are ordinary repairs. Relining a flue changes the venting system and does typically require a permit. We tell you which one your job is before we quote it.
- Are you a sweep or a mason?
- Both, and the masonry is the point. Element Hearth and Home is a CSIA-certified chimney company that self-performs the masonry most chimney companies sub out: crowns, repointing, and rebuilding the section above the roofline.
- Can I just get a second opinion?
- Yes, and we would rather you did. Send photos of the chimney and whatever quote you were handed. If we wouldn't do the work, we'll say so.
